Yo dudes. Put together this mix a few weeks ago to give to some certain promoters and heads. A bit harder and straight ahead sound. Enjoy!

Two dope joints with Afrika Bambaataa this week sponsored by the Red Bull Music Academy. I had the pleasure of checkin the Subsessions for J. Dilla and DJ Spinna last year and they were both fantastic. RSVP FOR BOTH OF THESE PEOPLE to my boy Munch@redbullmusicacademy.com
I am stoked to be playing up in Brooklyn this Friday night. Come hang and get deep! I’ll be around all weekend long for the other festivities: Water Taxi Beach, Mr Fingers @ Santos Party House, Timmy Regisford @ Area Code, etc.
Not super into the vocal version of this 12″, because the piano part that busts in is too good to mask! This nice little boogie track has a great, atomospheric opening and a beautiful, close-your-eyes-and-do-a-spin-in the-baby-powder groove. Enjoy!
I picked this up initially with a huge run of amazing records that I found at a certain thrift store a couple of years ago. I bought it at first becuase Eddy Grant was credited as the writer, but I didn’t know at the time that I had heard this before in my favorite mix (here and here).
This record has that 1980s Paradise Garage sound, sort of the post disco/proto house with great basslines and an incredible break past the 5 minute mark. Enjoy.
First off, I am back with the vinyl rips. Just installed a new Benz MC20E2, got it all aligned correctly, and now am in the process of breaking it in. I am still getting solid rips with the new needle, they just take a bit more work eqing, zeroing out some pops, etc. Anyways, on to the music…
Chez Damier’s curates some serious deepness with his “Unite Therapy Volume One” 4-track E.P. on the new French label, Balance Alliance.
The real standout for me on this record was the Larry Heard produced track that has a vocal that I think will really work well for letting the dancefloor breathe a bit after a hard banging. The bassline is stone cold and the vocal is very emotional. Besides this standout, the record also include a “secret” track which is a ‘Chez n Trent” version of Ani’s “Love is the Message”. Not sure if this is a repress from the original or a mix that never got released as I have never heard the initial release before. Need to inquire further about that one.
ANYWAYS, take a listen and then GO BUY THE RECORD HERE.Not gonna let you get away with a download on this one…
DJ Hut is closing. I spent hundreds, if not a few thousand dollars over the years, especially on trips back from college. I could complain and lament this loss, but I too blame myself for contributing to the downfall just like every other dj who started copping new shit digitally. The conversations and connections I made in this shop were invaluable and definitely gave me a place to launch my ambitions as a DJ. Friday afternoons afterwork will be sorely missed.
Here is the email I got:
We have some sad and disappointing news to share with you. DJHut can no longer battle the dual headwind of the demise of the music retail industry and the economic downturn. As a result, we are forced to shut down the store and go strictly online at the end of April. Effective immediately, all vinyl records, CDs, DVDs and books will be liquidated at the rate of 20% off the regular price.
We would like to thank you for your support over the last 7 years at the store and we look forward to your continued support online.
