There is something off-putting about this record that surprisingly turns me on to it. The melody and bells are creepy and the vocals are class-A sleaze. I especially love it when the male part comes in. Tony Green produced this record, who was also behind the Kebekelektrik “Magic Fly” and apparently some of the cuts on the France Joli s/t LP.
Another Paul Simpson proto-house/garage-era gem. This is the roughest and rawest sounding cut on this 12″ inch and I love it. It sounds more like a demo mix that was done at home rather than in the studio, but the bassline and the aesthetic of it make me want to do spins in some dark corner late at night.
This record is a personal taste thing. In my opinon, its a great midtempo house remix record with lots of that modern RnB crooning. The other records these guys put out were standard New Jack Swing style cuts. This particular record was released only on a white label bootleg and I forgot where I found/bought it.
My homie Glenn Echo is on fire these days. Check out this vicious 1970s cosmic guitar mindmelter that was re-edited from Steve Hillage’s “Palm Trees (Love Guitar)” off of the Green LP.
I had a TON of fun making this when they released all the stems from the original a few weeks ago. This clocks in at almost 3 times the length of the original at an auspicious 9:09!!!!
